Is 'Thin' A Good Thang?

Welcome!...squeeze on in here and pull up a chair (er...small, slender stool). I have a question for you:

Do you feel closed-in while viewing this page? Is the information area of this page too narrow and do you see a lot of wasted space along the right and left margins? Perhaps for those who have smaller computer monitors this format works nifty. But I'm curious as to the size of most people's computer monitors. Please take the poll to the upper right of this page and thanks so much for participating!

Disclaimer: This post is not intended to critize the wonderful designer of this blog site. I am merely in the process of designing my own site and would love to spread out a bit IF it works for my valued viewers. Thanks much!

I notice the same thing with my monitor. :-)

Very good post! Being one who has to keep up with the Joneses (kidding) - I was concerned that the whole world ( besides me) had plasma tv size monitors :)

I have a 17" widescreen monitor and the page looks fine. I'm used to the skinny format of blogs. I just accept that that's the way things are! =}

i picked the wrong answer, i put larger than 19" but it is actually 19". I don't think there is much wasted space although i have the same layout on my blog (same colors and evrything!) but i adjusted the width of both the side and middle sections. If you'd like to know how to widen yours, feel free to contact me and i'll walk you though it!

I personally don't mind the space on each sides. I have a 17 inch screen and I actually think its nice design because it is cleaner and gives your eyes a break!

funny, because when i looked at my blog on my sister's laptop my banner was totally messed up. as for yours, i have a 19" and it looks beautiful.

I really like it this size. Your eye can easily move from line to line going down the page :) Love your blog!

It's the formatting of the blog layout, unfortunately. I like to have the whole screen covered with things.

Your blog is very nice though.

I'm a 17 and the blog has a space along bothe sies, but it's not too big. I would much rather have that than have to scroll over to see it all. Ant page I come across that does that, I don't bother staying at.

Nice blog colours.

I do a lot of graphic work, as well as development that requires many windows open at the same time. The bigger the space, the better for me. My laptop screen is 17"; my desktop system is 24" (or something close to that).

As far as your blog goes, however, the two-column layout is nice, and the width is nice, too. Usability studies show that users prefer to read a more narrow column, or at least one that they can adjust, so I would say that yours is perfect!

neat post..I expanded my blogs to three columns and widened the middle..like it a lot better.

Good for you, designing your own. I have a similar grid to yours and am not happy with it, but some of the designs that go wall to wall are like watching CSpan--too much going on, no focus. Let us know when you're done!

Well, it does seem a bit thin to me. I have a 15 inch monitor, not really that big.

I tried makeing my screen a little wider and the text is a larger then most. It is better for me because I don't have the best eyes.
I know what you mean though.
